Surgical smoke is the gaseous by-product of any procedure done using surgical devices. The procedures mainly include electrosurgery, laser tissue ablation, and ultrasonic scalpel dissection. Surgical smoke is usually a combination of different chemicals, blood, tissue particles, bacteria, and viruses. Long-term exposure to surgical smoke may exhibit potential risks of toxicity, carcinogenicity, or possible infectivity to physicians as well as patients.
It is crucial to identify the health hazards associated with surgical smoke. In this regard, Docplexus has organized the International Academic Collaborative session 5 in association with the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endosurgeons (IAGES). In this discussion, experts will share their views on the topic “Surgical Smoke – Myths and Aura Around It.”
