A recent study has reviewed and investigated a total of 3997 medicolegal complaints published over the last three decades in Iran. The rate of medical malpractices was analyzed according to the specialties, setting, and year. The study also identified the most common underlying reasons leading to malpractices in Iran. Search, selection, and extraction method Results Out of the total complaints reviewed, 36% were proven as medical malpractice, and physicians were acquitted in 64% of cases (Figure 1) .
Most complaints were against gynecologists, accounting for (43%), followed by orthopedic specialists (21.4%) (Figure 1) . The most common reason for failure identified was lack of skill (30.4%), followed by negligence (29.2%) (Figure 2) .
