Early or late manifestation of fungal infection remains a major complication in low birth weight neonates. High degree suspicion and multisystem evaluation are necessary to confirm the diagnosis. Generally, the Amphotericin B deoxycholate and fluconazole are well tolerated and are the mainstay of treating the fungal infection. This article discusses the causes and risk factors, diagnosis, and treatment options for fungal infections in neonates.
