Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a contemporary, non-surgical option for high-risk surgical patients with severe aortic valve stenosis. Studies have shown that TAVR is non-inferior to surgical aortic valve replacement. TAVR is also less invasive than conventional surgery and its advantages are reflected in the lower rates of acute kidney injury, atrial fibrillation, and shorter hospital stays. Studies have also shown TAVR to be cost-effective which will certainly prove to be beneficial for patients.
