Burnout not only negatively affects the physician but also patient and healthcare organization. According to a recent survey, approximately 32% to 78% of medical practitioners worldwide experience symptoms associated with burnout. Burnout is a state of mental and physical exhaustion related to work or caregiving activities.

It is further characterized by three core domains: physical and emotional exhaustion, cynicism and depersonalization, and a reduced sense of professional accomplishment.
