It contains nicotine, a highly addictive substance that can lead to long-term dependence even after short-term use. Tobacco smoke contains thousands of harmful chemicals, including carcinogens, which cause serious diseases such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
