Telemedicine, which was a novel concept before the COVID-19 pandemic, is emerging as one of the mainstream modes of healthcare. With the increasing demand for virtual medical consultation, diagnosis, and treatment, every health care provider must be aware of not only the ways and processes of telemedicine, but also the applicable ethics and the associated legalities. In 2020, the Government of India, along with the Board of Governors (in supersession of the Medical Council of India), amended the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, and published the Telemedicine Practice Guidelines, which provide a structure to effectively practice telemedicine in India. Here's a downloadable (PDF) infographic summarizing the GOI guidelines (2020) on telemedicine practice in India.
