In general, rare diseases are the diseases which affect a small group of the population. Unlike other diseases, there are different estimates for judging if a disease is rare. Developing countries lack appropriate data on important considerations like disease prevalence, severity, and the existence of treatment options. The above considerations pioneer the evaluation of the disease burden. This leads to difficulty in cementing a proper technical definition of rare diseases in developing countries.
According to an estimate, globally around 6000 to 8000 rare disease exist but approximately 80% of them are affected by around 350 diseases. Even if the diseases are independently rare, but mutually they are dangerous affecting around 6% to 8% of the global population.
