This single-center analysis of 22 pediatric patients demonstrates that thoracoscopic repair of recurrent tracheoesophageal fistula (RTEF) —though technically demanding—can be performed with 100% procedural success, reinforcing its safety and feasibility. Children aged 2–30 months underwent thoracoscopic repair despite complex histories, including multiple recurrences, prior thoracotomies, and failed endoscopic ligations. Postoperative outcomes were encouraging: while esophageal leakage (27.3%) and esophageal stenosis (36.4%) were observed, all cases improved with conservative management or balloon dilation.

Importantly, re-recurrence occurred in only 4.5% over follow-up up to 4 years , with most children demonstrating healthy growth and recovery. These findings highlight thoracoscopy as a reliable, minimally invasive option for managing RTEF in experienced centers. To read more; Click…
