Adolescents ranging in age from 11–15 (early‐mid adolescence) comprise the largest percentage of throwing injuries. High school participation in the throwing sports has increased over the past two decades. Participation in sports has been linked to many health benefits including improved cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and psychosocial health but participation is also associated with a potential risk of injury. Interscholastic injury rates are relatively low in softball and baseball when considering all position players over the course of a 12‐week season.

Many adolescent athletes play multiple positions and participate on more than one team per year contributing to arm fatigue and the risk of overuse injuries.
