Thymoma represents a very complex and diverse spectrum of disease with a wide range of clinical behavior. For this reason, physicians take a team approach to tailor the treatment to the individual patient’s circumstances and utilize surgery, chemotherapy, and/or radiation for successful long-term outcomes. The most common surgery for thymus tumors is thymectomy. In most cases, the surgery is done through a median sternotomy. In this type of surgery, serious complications can include excessive bleeding, wound infections, pneumonia, and delayed patient recovery.

It takes 3-4 months for a patient to get back to normal daily routine. You will need to stay in the hospital for several days after the surgery.
