Thyrotoxicosis is a major risk factor for osteoporosis, however, its metabolic role in bone disease is not well established. The course of treatment of thyrotoxicosis has shown the reversal of bone loss and metabolic alteration with decreased risk of the disease. Here is an attempt to discuss thyrotoxicosis and its metabolic effect on bone disease. Thyrotoxicosis is a hypermetabolic condition indicated by the excess of thyroxin hormones which shows increased levels of thyroxine and triiodothyronine.
