Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is a syndrome caused by acute myocardial ischaemia precipitated by atherosclerotic plaque  rupture or erosion, with differing degrees of superimposed thrombosis, vascular constriction and coronary occlusion. The precipitating symptom that triggers the diagnostic and therapeutic cascade is chest pain but many patients especially women and those with diabetes can present with ACS with atypical pain or no pain at all. Ticagrelor is used as dual antiplatelet therapy to treat acute coronary syndrome.
