A clinical trial conducted in India has revealed that combining two of three blood pressure-lowering medications—amlodipine, perindopril, and indapamide—is five times more effective at controlling hypertension than using a single drug. The study involving 1,981 adults aged 30 to 79 with hypertension was conducted at 35 hospitals across India, and the findings were presented at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions 2024. The study showed that all three combinations of two drugs effectively lowered blood pressure to below 140/90 mm Hg in about 70% of participants.
Impressively, these combinations achieved the more stringent blood pressure target of less than 130/80 mm Hg in over 40% of participants.
