It is evident that adipokines are one of the reasons for the pathogenesis of various metabolic disorders such as obesity and type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM0. However, there is less evidence for various adipokines such as leptin, resistin, visfatin, secreted frizzled-related protein 5 (SFRP5), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) and retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP4) their correlation with clinical parameters of overweight and T2DM. A recent case-controlled study which aimed to evaluate the correlation of adipokines with clinical parameters of obesity and diabetes reported that adipokines specifically leptin, resistin, visfatin, SFRP5, MCP-1, and RBP4 are associated with overweight and T2DM.
