The occurrence of neonatal portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is estimated to be 1/10000 live births. PVT is a rare condition in neonates who undergo umbilical vein catheterization at the time of birth. It resolves in approximately 60-70% of the cases, while others may continue into infancy or more till treated. The underlying cause is ascertained to be thrombophilia and is most often treated by medication or surgical intervention. An infant with PLBW presented with hematemesis and recurrent variceal bleeding. Conventional therapies do not conform to low weight.
