Neck trauma is the most complex case to tackle in the emergency department (ED). Penetrating neck injuries have a mortality rate of up to 10%. The management of neck trauma can be daunting as its anatomical area includes many vital structures. In ED, these structures may cause diagnostic and therapeutic problems.
The neck is divided into three zones for descriptive and clinical management purposes: zones 1, 2, and 3. Zone designations in penetrating trauma have anatomic, diagnostic, and management implications . When explaining traumatic injuries, it is preferable to use the zone system to assist in directing management decisions. Zone 1 : Region between clavicles and the cricoid cartilage Zone 2 : Region between the cricoid cartilage and the angle of the mandible Zone 3 : Region between the angle of the mandible and the base of the skull ##Disclaimer## The content provided onβ¦
