Genome sequencing has played an important role in understanding various SARS-CoV-2 variants and vaccine development. A large dataset of SARS-CoV-2 genomes has been collected in the GISAID[VH1] [AM2]  (A global initiative on sharing avian flu and coronavirus data) database having more than 3.7 million genome sequences from all over the globe. Researchers in Lithuania have studied the genetic lineage [AP3] of the most recently established variant. The variant lineage B.1.1.523, now reported in 27 countries, shows immune escape, mutations—156_158del, E484K, and S494P substitution in Spike (S) protein.
