The U.S. FDA has approved diazoxide choline for the treatment of hyperphagia in adult and pediatric patients aged four and older with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS). Diazoxide choline reduces fasting plasma insulin levels and increases blood glucose levels by inhibiting insulin release from the pancreas.

Clinical evidence In a clinical trial conducted on 77 patients with hyperphagia and PWS, diazoxide choline significantly reduced hyperphagia over 16 weeks compared to a placebo (Hyperphagia Questionnaire for Clinical Trials Total score: 2.6 vs. 7.6).
