The Australian Women’s Midlife Years (AMY) Study, covering over 8,000 women aged 40–69 , highlights that moderately-to-severely bothersome vasomotor symptoms (VMS)—including hot flushes and night sweats—rise nearly five-fold during the shift from premenopause to late perimenopause. Almost 40% of perimenopausal participants experienced untreated, potentially debilitating VMS, suggesting these symptoms may be a more reliable and early marker for perimenopause than menstrual changes, especially in women with altered bleeding patterns. This person-centered approach can help clinicians identify perimenopause earlier and optimize support for affected women. To learn more Click here .
