In a letter written to UP's CM Akhilesh Yadav, Indian Medical Association has shown deep concern about the assault on a senior member of the Association Dr. Rohit Gupta, a renowned Gastroenterologist in Allahabad on Sunday, April 12. According to a press release by Indian Medical Association (IMA), Dr. Gupta was assaulted around 4:00 AM on Sunday in Anand Hospital, Allahabad. IMA has said that a 80 year old patient, who came in hospital with multi organ failure, died in the wee hours.

When Dr. Rohit came to see the patient, his relatives brutally beat him for 10 to 15 minutes, snatched his mobile, gold chain and damaged the ICU infrastructure, as claimed in the release. IMA's local Branch of Allahabad has gone on strike and UP State Branch has called a State wide agitation against this alleged assault on the doctor.
