A meta-analysis published in the Journal of Public Health showed that physicians and nurses frequently face violent attacks from patients and their relatives worldwide. In addition, physicians more commonly face physical violence, while nurses are vulnerable to sexual harassment. Researchers from India, Bangladesh, and Sweden reviewed 22 articles published between 2010 and 2020 about violence against physicians and nurses.

The study showed that healthcare professionals (HCPs) from both middle-income countries and high-income countries, including Australia, the UK, and Germany, were affected by violent attacks by patients and their relatives.
