Violence and increasing violence is the order of the day and doctors cannot escape it. Violence by implication denotes an unwarranted force or power against others. It may be physical, verbal, or emotional. The violence faced by doctors can be from two sources-patients and attendants. Most of the violence from patients is from psychiatric patients. Other branch doctors, except emergency care doctors, may not see patients who resort to violence much. Violence has two aspects- inward directed and outward directed.
Inward directed violence is attempted suicide. Outward-directed violence can lead to many problems. The patient in the bargain injure self or others. There may be destruction all round.
