Vitamin D deficiency is a pandemic, yet it is the nearly under diagnosed and under treated nutritional deficiency in the world. Serum concentration of 25(OH)D is the most reliable marker of vitamin D status. 1 Endocrine Society Clinical Practice Guideline states that serum 25(OH)D below 20 ng/mL (50 nmol/liter), 21-29 ng/mL (52.5-72.5 nmol/liter) and 30-100 ng/mL is defined as vitamin D deficiency (VDD), insufficiency and sufficiency, respectively. Numerous studies across various regions of the India indicate that approximately 70-90% of apparently healthy population is vitamin D deficient (VDD).
