While lifestyle changes and bariatric surgery are known to increase testosterone levels, the effects of weight-loss medications on testosterone have remained unclear. To address this gap, a study presented at the Endocrine Society’s annual meeting, ENDO 2025, investigated the impact of weight-loss drugs—semaglutide, tirzepatide, and dulaglutide—on testosterone levels in 110 adult men with obesity or type 2 diabetes. Over 18 months, treatment with these medications led to a significant increase in both total and free testosterone levels from 53% to 77%.
In addition, patients experienced an average weight loss of 10%. These findings suggest that weight-loss medications may not only aid in weight reduction but also improve testosterone levels in men with obesity and type 2 diabetes, potentially benefiting their reproductive health.
