A female patient has been having hypothyroidism since her early twenties. She is now 31-year-old and she has 1 child. Tablet Thyroxine 25mg, 50mg or 100mg has been her main medications depending on her TSH values. She would take it for 2/3 months and then stopped when her TSH values become normal. But after 1/2 months her TSH value always rises again.
She has most of the symptoms of hypothyroidism viz intolerance to cold, dry skins, palpitations and slight thyroid enlargement. I would be very grateful if an endocrinologist can advise me on how to continue her treatment or even cure her. What more investigations should I do? Her latest TFT done about a month ago was - TSH->5 &T3/T4 within normal limits.
