Radiographs play an important role in assessing periodontal diseases , caries, periapical pathologies, and dentoalveolar fractures. There are three radiographic methods that are mostly used in the diagnosis of periodontal diseases: 1) panoramic radiography, 2) bitewings, and 3) periapical radiography. A recent development in the field of radiology has led to the rise of digital imaging , which has made a significant impact on dental radiographs.
Digital radiographic methods are advantageous as they eliminate chemical processing, reduce exposure to radiation, and manipulate the images with the help of software. The enhancement of digital images optimizes diagnosis .
