The WHO has launched the Global Strategic Preparedness, Readiness, and Response plan to combat dengue and other Aedes-borne arboviral diseases, including Zika and chikungunya . The plan aims to promote a global coordinated response against mosquito-borne arboviral diseases and reduce the disease burden. The plan was developed in response to the doubling of dengue cases each year since 2021, with over 12.3 million cases reported as of August this year. In addition, four billion individuals are estimated to be at risk of contracting arboviral infections worldwide.

Currently, dengue is endemic in over 130 countries.
