Down syndrome, or trisomy 21, is a lifelong condition in which a person has an extra copy of chromosome 21. The syndrome causes varying degrees of intellectual and physical disability, with no probable treatment or cure. Every year 21 st of March is observed as World Down Syndrome Day to celebrate the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) and raise awareness about the condition. The theme for this year is: “With Us Not for Us” emphasizing the importance of people with Down syndrome being treated fairly and having the same opportunities as everyone else.
