Viral hepatitis is one of the major public health concerns globally. Every year, approximately 1.4 million people die from complications arising due to viral hepatitis. World Hepatitis Day is commemorated each year on 28th July to create awareness on the global impact of viral hepatitis. This year’s theme on World Hepatitis Day is “Hepatitis-free Future,” focussing on the prevention of hepatitis B among mothers and newborns. Screening for the disease, antiviral intervention during pregnancy, immuno-prophylaxis of the mother and baby, and post-vaccination serologic testing should be the core components of preventing mother to child transmission.
