This new system which is still under evaluation stage has much better sensitivity for TB detection especially in extrapulmonary TB where the bacillary load is very low such as TB meningitis. In a study done GenXpert Ultra had a sensitivity of 95% as compared to 45% in TB culture for CSF sample in TB meningitis. WHO already has provided guidelines for use of this Nextgen Xpert assay, which has substantially improved analytical and clinical sensitivity.
