Case presentation An 8-year-old boy presents to the clinic with a low-grade fever, tachypnea, and mild hypoxia. Medical history Reports of cough and wheezing at 3 years of age, after which he was prescribed a presumptive treatment of asthma (beta-2 agonist) followed by an acute response to the treatment. Despite the use of an anti-leukotriene-receptor antagonist (in the form of inhaled corticosteroids) and antireflux medication, he reported chronic symptoms. At six years of age, he had a recurrent fever, and his right lung had collapsed.

His lung condition could not be improved by antibiotics and physiotherapy. So he underwent a bilobectomy of the right middle and lower lung portions for a suspected foreign body, but nothing was found in the resection specimens.
