This part of my presentation is about the surge in Amniotic Fluid Optical Density (AFOD). There is a change in color of AF which starts about 8 to 10days before the onset of spontaneous labor. To start with liquor is watery, then changes to milky, buttermilk-like and then curd-like. This color change is due to the shedding of vernix caseosa from the fetal skin surface into AF. Narendran V.
et.al reported the concept of lung skin interaction. The rapidly rising amniotic fluid lecithin during the third trimester (before the onset of labor) induces rapid and progressive detachment of vernix from the fetal skin surface, which gets mixed with AF resulting in a surge like a rise in AFOD.
