A 47-year-old male patient reported to the maxillofacial surgery department with left-sided facial pain for the past six months. The pain was aggravated by yawning and radiated to the angle of the mandible. The patient had recently undergone root canal treatment on a lower left molar. Examination Fullness posterior to the left angle of the mandible No discrete mass was found. Investigations An orthopantomogram revealed a small periapical pathology associated with the root canal treatment of the lower left molar.

A calcified left stylohyoid ligament following an orthopantomogram was later deemed to be an artifact. Parotid ultrasound: No abnormalities were detected. The patient was referred to the otorhinolaryngology department for further assessment based on the above findings. Examination Digital palpation within the left tonsillar fossa resulted in left-sided facial pain.…
