Sometimes a patient needs just the mental support of a doctor or an assurance of being treated, a placebo can do wonder in such cases. It's not the unethical "magical remedy" as prohibited in codes of ethics of the medical profession, but an established evidence based "trick" to cure patients who actually do not need any medication.
