A 71-year-old noted an unusual red lesion that had been moving across his tongue for approximately 3 months. He complained of occasional burning sensation while eating spicy food. He has no other symptoms and otherwise healthy. The patient was a former smoker who was being treated for essential hypertension for last 15 years and reports no drug allergy or recent change in medication.
On oral examination, a well-defined, flat, rounded red area could be observed on the lingual dorsum; a mild coating of plaque could also be seen on the tongue (Image attached). What is the most likely diagnosis by looking at the image? Does it require a treatment?
