Researchers from Osaka City University have reported positive preclinical results for a novel nasal spray designed to prevent dementia-related neurodegeneration. The spray combines two cost-effective drugs, namely rifampicin and resveratrol, which have been shown to improve cognitive function in various dementia mouse models. Despite the continuous efforts of researchers and pharmaceutical companies, neurodegenerative dementia has no effective cure. Many drug candidates have been developed, but clinical trials have demonstrated that most of them fail to improve patients' cognition.
