A 10-year-old girl presents with a history of rapid severe wrinkling of the skin of her palms after minimal exposure to water. The parents of the child reported that the episodes are asymptomatic and self-resolve within 40 to 60 minutes after drying. Her soles are unaffected. The girl’s past medical history is unremarkable. On examination, before water exposure, there are no abnormalities of the child’s palms or other skin areas. However, after simple wetting, her palms promptly wrinkle, with the formation of edematous whitish plaques and papules.
She does not complain of pain, itching, discomfort or pruritus. After drying, her palms return to normal. On the basis of history and examination, the provisional diagnosis of aquagenic wrinkling of the palms (AWP) is made. ##Disclaimer## The content provided on Docplexus is intended for educational purposes only.
