The American Academy of Dermatology defines acne vulgaris as “a chronic inflammatory dermatosis notable for open or closed comedones (blackheads and whiteheads) and inflammatory lesions, including papules, pustules, or nodules (also known as cysts).” Here are the guidelines, developed in accordance with and as an update to ‘‘Administrative Regulations for Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guidelines’’ (August 2012) released by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD)/American Academy of Dermatology Association.
