Recent studies suggest that cardiovascular disease (CVD) may play a role in the development and progression of cancer. To investigate this, a study has examined whether individuals with locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer at diagnosis have pre-existing CVD. The study analyzed data from 19,292 individuals with a median age of 73. The patients diagnosed with locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer were found to have a 10% increased risk of prevalent CVD.
Importantly, this association was observed in hormone receptor-positive breast cancer (odds ratio [OR] โ 1.11) but not in hormone receptor-negative breast cancer (OR โ 1.02). The association remained consistent in locally advanced (OR โ 1.09) and metastatic (OR โ 1.20) breast cancer cases. These findings suggest that individuals with CVD may have an increased risk of breast cancer and underscore the importance ofโฆ
