Despite being considered the criterion standard for reducing diabetes risk in individuals with prediabetes , the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) has seen limited implementation due to low program availability and participation rates. In contrast, digital versions of the DPP are gaining increasing attention. To evaluate their effectiveness, researchers compared an artificial intelligence (AI)-led DPP with a human-led DPP in improving weight loss and hemoglobin A1c levels among 368 adults with overweight or obesity and prediabetes.
Over a 12-month follow-up, 31.7% of participants in the AI-led DPP and 31.9% in the human-led DPP achieved at least 5% weight loss or 4% weight loss combined with 150 minutes of weekly physical activity . Both groups also demonstrated at least a 0.2% reduction in hemoglobin A1c, maintaining levels below 6.5%. These findings suggest that AI-led DPPs can…
