Athletes with past ankle injuries are identified for a higher chance of consequent hamstring injury when compared with other athletes (diagnosed with the hamstring injury first time) reported in a study published in BMC. The study was aimed to determine a past inversion ankle injury is related to a risk of succeeding ipsilateral hamstring injury. The chances of suffering from hamstring injuries were significantly higher in athletes with past ankle injuries (x 2  = 4.245, p = 0.039) as compared with the athletes having first-time hamstring injuries.

The relative proportion of ankle and hamstring injuries were similar across female (18%) and male athletes (11%). Moreover, age and intensity of injury did not have any effect on the ankle and hamstring injuries. Source: The BMC Have you experienced this in your practice?
