Limited evidence exists on which to base decisions about the content, process and relationships required to communicate effectively during first-time encounters, or during urgent or semi-urgent consultations, such as antenatal consultations. The present article is a synopsis from one such study that attempted to evaluate the accuracy of antenatal prognostication. The patient-centered care model recommends providing as much information as the patient desires to facilitate shared decision-making.
