Diabetic ketoacidosis ( DKA ) in pregnancy is a serious acute metabolic complication of gestational diabetes mellitus ( GDM ) occurring in the later stages of pregnancy that may result in fetal loss . The incidence rate of DKA in pregnant diabetic women is only 1-2%, while GDM presenting with DKA is of more unusually low occurrence. Furthermore, GDM presenting with DKA is considered as the leading cause of fetal demise with a fetal mortality rate of 30–90% . The present article reviews case reports of two pregnant women without a history of diabetes but developed GDM that further presented with DKA.
