A 33-year-old woman was diagnosed with diabetes during a recent pregnancy and had lost 23 lbs over the last 3–4 weeks. Previously, she was suffering from "flu-like" symptoms, including nausea, fatigue, polydipsia, and polyuria, for which her obstetrician referred her to a primary care provider. Despite a couple of visits, she was only advised to rest and asked to increase her fluid intake. Family History One of the patient's sisters had previously been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Medical History Crohn’s disease was diagnosed several years ago.
Pre-pregnancy weight: 114–120 lb The patient gained 25 lbs during her pregnancy. Workup A routine glucose challenge test at 28–29 weeks of gestation was elevated at 662 mg/dl.
