In contrast to studies in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), MRI research in young pediatric age groups is less common. Practical and technical challenges occur when imaging infants and children. These include procedural difficulties, technical obstacles and the challenge of choosing the most appropriate analysis methods for pediatric imaging data.

The current article focuses on pediatric neuroimaging imaging protocols for young children and infants. Neuroimaging in young children additionally favours the investigation of brain and can potentially reveal certain perceptual, procedural, and cognitive skills.
