Hospitals remain one of the most expensive facilities built up with complex infrastructure, regulations and safety codes. But are these been built in the right way? Are these designs killing us? Problems like hospital-acquired infections majorly contribute to illness and death of intensive care unit patients. It is found that private rooms have less chances of bacterial infection than the shared ones. Another problem is falls in hospitals which leads to serious injuries.

Design factors contributing here include slippery floors, poorly lit areas, toilets that are too high or too low. These factors not only affect the patients but also the doctors. Considering these aspects research urges an urgent need to change the way hospitals are built and maintained.
