Patients with a neurologic deficit or general conditions but susceptible to increases falling due to gait instability, painful or inflamed joints etc. have some neurologic deficits that can help predict the falls. If the substantial risk of falls is identified, then appropriate interventions can be implemented. These guidelines are designed to assess the risk of falls from the neurological deficits.

Evidence-based guidelines are necessary for the interventions that can reduce the risk of falls in older persons. Many older patients are at increased risk of falling and seek neurological consultation. In such cases, an early visit can address the risk factors, and offer interventions that can prevent the falls.
