Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (T2D) is rapidly becoming common chronic metabolic disorder. Until recently, the skeleton was not included in the list of organs affected by T2D, however, recent studies show that older adults with T2D have a greater risk of fractures. Despite increased fracture risk in T2D patients, it is surprising that Bone Mineral Density (BMD) is generally higher in T2D patients as compared to those without. This article discusses the publication synopsis about current concepts and future directions in the assessment of bone turnover and bone quality in T2D.
