Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs), widely prescribed for glycemic control in diabetes , have shown emerging anti-inflammatory potential; however, their impact on ocular inflammatory diseases is not well understood. To explore this, a study evaluated whether GLP-1RA use is associated with a reduced risk of developing uveitis in 516,052 patients. The study found that the GLP-1RA cohort had a lower risk of uveitis (Risk ratios (RRs) 0.48) compared with controls.
This protective effect was consistent in patients with type 2 diabetes (RR, 0.54) and without diabetes (RR, 0.52). Compared with metformin (RR, 0.58) and insulin (RR, 0.57), GLP-1RAs conferred greater protection, though they were associated with a slightly higher risk of uveitis than SGLT2 inhibitors (RR, 1.17). These findings suggest that GLP-1 receptor agonist use may be linked to a reduced risk of uveitis,โฆ
